Job description

Multi Skilled Maintenance Manager

Leading a team of 3, we are looking for a Maintenance Manager to join our client on a permanent basis. This is a hands-on role, where you will be 50% office based and 50% performing maintenance tasks; therefore, both Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance experience is required. You will be a self-motivated candidate with ambitions to progress within the company into an Engineering Manager role in the future. You will focus on improving efficiency and delivering cost savings across the business as well as managing the people within the Maintenance department.

Location: Newmarket, Suffolk

Hours: 8am - 5pm Monday - Friday (some weekend/evening callouts may be required)

Salary: £45,000 - £60,000 dependent on experience and relevant qualifications

Duration: Permanent

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Multi-Skilled Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance and repair of our facilities and equipment. This is a hands-on role that requires a strong technical background in both mechanical and electrical maintenance, as well as the ability to lead a small team and ensure the smooth operation of the site.

Job Duties:

  1. Manage and coordinate all maintenance activities across the site, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
  2. Schedule and manage improvement projects and equipment upgrades.
  3. Oversee planned preventive maintenance (PPM) schedules and reactive maintenance tasks including: Mobile racking maintenance and repairs, Management of dock levellers and loading bays, floor repairs, Roller/slide door repairs/replacement.
  4. Management of contractors for ad hoc repairs and breakdowns.
  5. Lead and mentor a small team of maintenance engineers, providing training and support where necessary.
  6. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  7. Ensure all maintenance work complies with health and safety regulations and company policies including regulatory controls.
  8. Work closely with operations and logistics teams to minimise disruption to daily business.
  9. Liaise with external contractors and service providers as the main point of contact.
  10. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  11. Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost-saving initiatives.

What we are looking for:
  1. Proven experience in a similar multi-skilled maintenance role within a logistics, distribution, or manufacturing environment.
  2. Strong Electrical and Mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  3. Self-motivated and ambitious attitude with desire to progress in the business.
  4. Welding skills would be advantageous for this vacancy.
  5. Experience leading and managing a maintenance team.
  6. Relevant technical qualifications (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, 18th Edition Wiring Regulations).
  7. Strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
  8. Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Excellent communication and organisational skills.
