Qualifications

  • Respond to line breakdowns urgently to minimise downtime.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance is undertaken in line with OEE recommendations.
  • Maintain engineering workshop and toolboxes in a clean condition.

Overview

Major Recruitment has an exciting opportunity for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a leading food manufacturing site in West Bromwich. The site is a critical part of the UK food supply chain, producing products for major retailers including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, M&S, Aldi, and Lidl, and is currently benefiting from significant investment in people, equipment, and processes.

In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of equipment, including cutting machines, packaging lines, and quality control systems such as metal detectors and X-rays. You'll respond to breakdowns, troubleshoot issues, and implement preventative maintenance schedules to ensure the site runs efficiently and safely. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement projects that enhance performance and productivity.

Key Responsibilities
  • As part of the Engineering Shift Team, respond to line breakdowns urgently and in a timely manner to minimise line downtime.
  • Respond to engineering and facility queries raised by departments.
  • Comply with site policies and procedures to ensure a safe and efficient working environment for all employees.
  • Ensure Site and Departmental KPI targets are met.
  • Maintain engineering workshop, toolboxes, spares, etc. in a clean and tidy condition at all times.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance (PPMs) are undertaken in line with OEE recommendations.
  • Involvement with Continuous Improvement initiatives as required.
  • Adopt a continuous learning approach to work to ensure your skill matches the role and site requirements.
  • Work with colleagues from all functions in a cooperative and positive manner.
  • Work in line with the company Behaviours (ADART).
  • Adopt a flexible approach to work which might include covering for colleagues when absent due to sickness or holidays.
  • Any other tasks which might be required from time to time and for which you are suitably qualified.
  • Provide excellent and efficient customer service to the site teams.
  • Work as part of the whole engineering function.
About You
  • Apprentice trained with NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in both mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Minimum three years' experience post-qualification, ideally in FMCG or food manufacturing.
  • Skilled in fault finding, repair, and problem solving under pressure.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement methods (Six Sigma, 5S, Lean).
  • 17th Edition Electrical Certificate and IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent) preferred.
  • A flexible, proactive engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and values teamwork.
