Job Description:

JOB: Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer (site based)

SALARY: up to £45k basic plus overtime

STATUS: Permanent

HOURS: 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday (40 hours)

My client is seeking to employ a full time Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join their fast-paced cold store warehouse operation.

Reporting directly to the General Manager you will have responsibility for Engineering Technicians/Apprentices.

This role requires both mechanical and electrical expertise to ensure the continuous and efficient running of the warehouse facility, refrigeration systems, and associated equipment.

You will play a critical role in maintaining site operations, minimizing downtime, and promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Always working within the company procedure and policy requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across a wide range of mechanical and electrical systems within a cold storage environment.
  • Diagnose and repair faults on electrical systems (motors, control panels, sensors, PLCs) and mechanical systems (conveyors, pumps, compressors).
  • Perform fault finding, root cause analysis, and implement long-term corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain and repair refrigeration systems, including ammonia cooling equipment (training provided if necessary).
  • Ensure compliance with site health and safety, food safety, and environmental standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work carried out, including maintenance logs and compliance records.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist in projects or installations as required.
  • Liaise with operations staff and contractors to ensure minimal disruption to operations.

Department/Line Managers have responsibility for safety issues in their relevant sections, which involve:

  • Ensuring the attainment of objectives within their departments through effective communication and allocation of responsibilities.
  • Ensuring effective safety management within their departments through the effective implementation of site specific procedures.
  • Ensuring that all employees in their departments are aware of the all site specific Health and Safety procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Identifying specific training requirements where appropriate.
  • Ensuring all hazards, near misses and accidents are reported and acted on, and lead accident investigations in their area of authority.
  • Monitoring the attainment of department targets and objectives.
  • Being involved with annual Health and Safety auditing as required.

Am I right for this role?

If you are, you will have:

Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Multi-Skilled Engineering or Time Served experience

17th/18th Edition wiring regulations certification (advantageous).

Proven experience in a fast-paced warehousing, food production, or cold storage environment.

Good understanding of health and safety regulations and safe systems of work.

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Good communication skills and attention to detail.

Willingness to work in cold environments (PPE and appropriate clothing provided).

Desirable Skills/Qualifications

Experience working with refrigeration systems (ammonia or glycol-based).

Familiarity with PLC fault finding or programming

Working knowledge of compliance and legislation (Legionella, LOLER, Fire, etc)

Knowledge of automated warehouse systems or cold store racking equipment.

IOSH/NEBOSH or other health and safety qualifications
