We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join our Clients team in Melton Mowbray.
Job Summary/ Purpose
To maintain and repair plant, equipment, and buildings in support of 24/7 production of specialty plastic compounds. Work as part of the maintenance team to meet company objectives in safety, efficiency, and utilization of production equipment. Participate in providing a 24-hour troubleshooting service (maintenance, fire, or safety).
The candidate must demonstrate experience in maintaining plant and equipment through mechanical and electrical repairs.
Main Responsibilities
- Complete electrical and mechanical breakdown repairs across the site (Melton Mowbray and Old Dalby).
- Perform repairs and safety checks to maintain high safety standards and comply with health and safety legislation.
- Report dangerous machinery and respond to safety failures with corrective actions or isolation of faulty equipment.
- Assist in risk assessments and perform repairs using safe work methods as assigned by the supervisor. Ensure that work done unsupervised meets safety standards to protect yourself and others.
- Coordinate with Production to implement planned maintenance and repairs, ensuring smooth operation of all production equipment. Provide a safe, flexible, skilled service to minimize downtime and costs.
- Maintain cost-effective and reliable utility services (gas, water, electricity). Recommend and implement energy-saving measures and continuous improvements.
- Assist in maintaining systems, checks, procedures, records, and tests (e.g., lifts/hoists, forklift trucks, calibration) to meet safety legislation and company requirements.
- Identify spare parts needs and liaise with the Engineering Coordinator to ensure proper stock levels.
- Collaborate with Production and Technical Departments to troubleshoot processing issues and process variations. Make recommendations or rectify problems to improve quality standards.
- Train other employees (Engineers, Operators) in tasks such as TPM and changeovers.
- Work with management to ensure continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Assist with training and instructing operatives as needed.
- Undertake projects or other tasks as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
- Maintain flexibility in work shifts to meet business needs and holiday cover requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Apprentice-trained in Electrical or Mechanical disciplines.
Knowledge/Experience Required
- Fault finding and repair of gearboxes and drives.
- Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- IT literacy.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Understanding of technical drawings.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems.
- Ability to carry out electrical and mechanical installation work.
- Fault finding and repair on pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.
