Job description

Overview

First Military Recruitment is currently seeking a Maintenance Engineer on behalf of one of our clients. We encourage applications from ex-military personnel; however, all candidates will be given due consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure zero RIDDOR accidents by promoting a health and safety culture to create a safe working environment.
  2. Review systems of work within the team, ensuring the safest procedures are in place.
  3. Attend weekly health and safety meetings with the Engineering Team, reporting findings to the Health and Safety Manager.
  4. Investigate any H&S accidents/incidents and implement actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  5. Ensure all risk assessments (general, manual handling, COSHH) are in place and reviewed regularly.
  6. Conduct health, safety, and environment audits and address any failings.
  7. Encourage team members to raise and resolve hazards and near misses.
  8. Follow safety requirements when working on machinery.
  9. Ensure the safety of all team members and that work does not put others at risk.
  10. Develop flexible working practices by enhancing personal and team skills.
  11. Mentor new starters to integrate them into the team promptly.
  12. Work with Production Teams on machine setup, changeovers, and maintenance basics.
  13. Contribute to manufacturing quality and food safety through compliance and adherence to quality systems.
  14. Promote right first time (RFT) for repairs and maintenance.
  15. Implement and maintain hygiene and cleaning procedures for all plant and equipment.
  16. Perform monthly self-audits to ensure documentation compliance and traceability of maintenance repairs.
  17. Undertake root cause analysis for equipment failures and report findings with corrective actions.
  18. Follow hygiene and environmental standards when working on machinery.
  19. Work collaboratively to meet weekly workload targets.
  20. Ensure colleagues have the skills and knowledge for effective equipment maintenance.
  21. Investigate ongoing equipment issues.
  22. Champion continuous improvement (CI) techniques to resolve workflow issues.
  23. Manage engineering budgets and use data to reduce downtime costs.
  24. Monitor wastage and material usage to minimize losses.
  25. Liaise with the Engineering Stores Administrator for parts procurement and critical spares list.
  26. Coordinate with Engineering Manager and Head of Packaging on machinery installations and planned downtime to optimize costs.
  27. Maintain professionalism and comply with all relevant management system standards (ISO9001, BRC, ISO 14001, etc.).
  28. Undertake training to enhance skills as required.
  29. Perform other duties within capability.
  30. Uphold brand integrity through actions, communication, and deliverables.
