Overview
First Military Recruitment is currently seeking a Maintenance Engineer on behalf of one of our clients. We encourage applications from ex-military personnel; however, all candidates will be given due consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure zero RIDDOR accidents by promoting a health and safety culture to create a safe working environment.
- Review systems of work within the team, ensuring the safest procedures are in place.
- Attend weekly health and safety meetings with the Engineering Team, reporting findings to the Health and Safety Manager.
- Investigate any H&S accidents/incidents and implement actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Ensure all risk assessments (general, manual handling, COSHH) are in place and reviewed regularly.
- Conduct health, safety, and environment audits and address any failings.
- Encourage team members to raise and resolve hazards and near misses.
- Follow safety requirements when working on machinery.
- Ensure the safety of all team members and that work does not put others at risk.
- Develop flexible working practices by enhancing personal and team skills.
- Mentor new starters to integrate them into the team promptly.
- Work with Production Teams on machine setup, changeovers, and maintenance basics.
- Contribute to manufacturing quality and food safety through compliance and adherence to quality systems.
- Promote right first time (RFT) for repairs and maintenance.
- Implement and maintain hygiene and cleaning procedures for all plant and equipment.
- Perform monthly self-audits to ensure documentation compliance and traceability of maintenance repairs.
- Undertake root cause analysis for equipment failures and report findings with corrective actions.
- Follow hygiene and environmental standards when working on machinery.
- Work collaboratively to meet weekly workload targets.
- Ensure colleagues have the skills and knowledge for effective equipment maintenance.
- Investigate ongoing equipment issues.
- Champion continuous improvement (CI) techniques to resolve workflow issues.
- Manage engineering budgets and use data to reduce downtime costs.
- Monitor wastage and material usage to minimize losses.
- Liaise with the Engineering Stores Administrator for parts procurement and critical spares list.
- Coordinate with Engineering Manager and Head of Packaging on machinery installations and planned downtime to optimize costs.
- Maintain professionalism and comply with all relevant management system standards (ISO9001, BRC, ISO 14001, etc.).
- Undertake training to enhance skills as required.
- Perform other duties within capability.
- Uphold brand integrity through actions, communication, and deliverables.
