Multi-Skilled Maintenance Craftsperson (Mechanical/Electrical)

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Multiskilled Craftsperson to work at Hexham General Hospital. The successful candidates will work alongside the current multi skilled team to maintain the Hexham Hospital site including the Haltwhistle Memorial Hospital site. The post is 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday and will also take part in the emergency on call rota.

The post holder is working for Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will be involved in the day to day operation and maintenance of all Building/Engineering, life and business-critical services, plant and equipment within all Trust and non-Trust properties within their remit, including some installation work. They will be required to participate in the Estate's on-call rota and undertake essential out of hours on-call duties, as directed.

The successful applicant will already have M&E Building Services experience, be versatile, able to handle conflicting priorities and have the ability to work under pressure. They will be computer literate, have good technical knowledge and ability, with good verbal and written communication skills. They will also possess good interpersonal skills, allowing them to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel, within and beyond the organisation.

Job responsibilities
  • To provide a multi-skilled Electrical &Mechanical service provision for the Estates Department to all Client departments and Directorates.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload, where required, and work unsupervised.
  • Must demonstrate total commitment, versatility and flexibility whilst undertaking all tasks and delegated work as instructed by Operations and Project Officers and Supervisor.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
  • Understand the complete workings and operation of all building services Mechanical & Electrical plant and equipment located in NHS buildings.
  • Install, service, test, diagnose, repair and calibrate advanced Mechanical & Electrical plant and equipment.
  • Deal with new situations as they arise and impart knowledge onto others to further their development.
  • Undertake training as and when required to obtain, maintain and develop skills and knowledge base.
  • Ordering of stores/materials as and when required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Minimum BTEC ONC/City & Guilds in Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, or have an equivalent level of knowledge and experience
  • Recognised EITB Apprenticeship Mechanical & Electrical Engineering.
  • BTEC HNC.
Experience and knowledge
  • Experience of working on a wide range of highly complex mechanical and electrical plant undertaking planned maintenance and repairs.
  • Have experience of working on domestic heating, hot water, LPHW heating and domestic, steam systems and associated steam raising plant.
  • Have some experience of 400V emergency standby alternator sets.
  • Experience in hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
  • Relevant experience and professional specialist knowledge of working on highly complex multi faceted equipment within a healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
  • Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
  • Computer literate with experience of working on Building Management Systems and other Estates related monitoring and testing systems.
Other requirements
  • It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role
