Job summary

This role offers a Recruitment and Retention Payment of 3,500 per annum.

As a Maintenance Craftsperson (Mechanical), you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of engineering plant and equipment within a modern NHS hospital environment. This includes working on hot and cold water systems, emergency generators, heating, ventilation, and building management systems, alongside performing fault-finding and repairs.

Main duties of the job
  1. Conduct complex and non-routine mechanical maintenance.
  2. Maintain systems including heating, ventilation, water, pumps, compressors, and motors.
  3. Perform basic electrical work as required.
  4. Collaborate with maintenance colleagues, ward staff, and other departments.
  5. Use and manage the Facilities Management system for job planning and reporting.
  6. Participate in the on-call maintenance rota.

Job description & responsibilities

To complete new and alteration works within the post holders' skills and experience both during and out with normal hours.

  • Undertaking maintenance, repairs, minor improvement and capital work across the Trust as directed by management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures. An element of multi-skilling across Estates trades will be required.
  • To work in accordance with the statutory requirements of Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs) on HTM 06-03, Washer Disinfector HTM 2030, Sterilization HTM2010 (CFPPO -- 101), MGPS HTM 02 and Water Supplies HTM 2027 HTM 03- 01 Heating and Ventilation HTM 04-01 Safe Water in Healthcare Premises and BOAS.
  • To work in accordance with the Trust's Permit to Work (PTW) systems for Potentially Dangerous Plant, Confined Spaces, and Laboratory Working, ensuring NO public access to dangerous areas by securing work area and displaying appropriate signage warning of danger. This can be supported by verbal communication.
  • To undertake risk assessments as required for work in hazardous areas, taking all safety measures to prevent danger, injury, and damage to equipment.
  • Undertake on-call duties as part of the on-call team to ensure emergency repairs out of hours are attended to promptly. During these periods, work may not be of the core trade.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with Trust procedures.
