Job summary

Innovate is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Contractor to support FMCG/food & drink clients from our Northampton base. You will travel to client sites for breakdowns, scheduled maintenance and shutdowns, handling both mechanical and electrical issues on packaging lines.

Assignments vary in duration, including nights and weekends during shutdowns. Applicants should have a time-served background, FMCG maintenance experience and a UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent in mechanical or electrical discipline.
• Proven multi-skilled maintenance experience in FMCG or food & drink manufacturing.
• Strong fault-finding ability across mechanical and electrical systems.
• Good understanding of food hygiene with relevant certs.
• Full UK driving licence and own transport.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults on high-speed production lines.
• Carrying out planned and preventative maintenance to client schedules.
• Supporting factory shutdowns, line changeovers and equipment installations.
• Working with PLCs, HMIs, inverters, motors and conveyors.
• Following site food safety, hygiene and allergen controls at all times.
• Completing job reports and maintenance records accurately.
• Working safely under permit-to-work and LOTO procedures.

Innovate provides specialist engineering support to manufacturers across the FMCG and food & drink sectors. We're growing our network of trusted contractors who can step in at short notice to cover breakdowns, shutdowns, planned maintenance and project work for a range of clients.

The role

You'll join our pool of multi-skilled engineers, picking up assignments that suit your skills and availability. One week it might be fault-finding on a packaging line, the next supporting a planned shutdown or installing new equipment. Work ranges from single-day call-outs to multi-week projects, including nights and weekends during shutdown periods.

What we're looking for

Essential

• Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent, with an NVQ Level 3 / HNC or similar in a mechanical or electrical discipline
• Proven multi-skilled maintenance experience in an FMCG or food & drink manufacturing environment
• Strong fault-finding ability across both mechanical and electrical systems
• Good understanding of food hygiene with relevant certs.
• Full UK driving licence and own transport
• Right to work in the UK
