Job summary

Exceptional Care is seeking a Multi-Skilled Joiner to maintain and refurbish OFSTED-registered children's homes in Ormskirk, Lancashire. The role pays £150 per day and runs 8:30am–4:30pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work.

You will perform joinery, tiling, plumbing and decorating duties across eight homes, ensuring safe, warm environments for young people while complying with safety and safeguarding policies.

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence (6 penalty points max).
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Carpentry or Joinery (or equivalent).
  • Proven multi-skilled property maintenance experience.
  • Basic Health & Safety training.

Responsibilities

  • Complete refurbishments and repairs across eight homes and Head Office.
  • Carry out joinery tasks and general maintenance in occupied or vacant homes.
  • Work safely, comply with building regs, safeguarding guidelines.
  • Inspect regularly and identify maintenance needs.
  • Assist with kitchens, bathrooms, tiling, plastering, and decorating.
  • Maintain outdoor areas and seasonal tasks as needed.

Join Our Team – Multi-Skilled Joiner Wanted for Children’s Residential Homes

Location: Ormskirk / Lancashire (8 children's services) | Pay: £150 per day | Shifts: 8.30am – 4.30pm Mon to Fri – you may be required to work weekends on occasion

We’re expanding and looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Joiner to join our team. You’ll play a vital role in maintaining and refurbishing OFSTED registered homes for children and young people, helping create safe, welcoming environments where they can feel secure and supported.

This is not just a maintenance role — it’s an opportunity to directly contribute to the well‑being and care of vulnerable children by ensuring their homes are functional, warm, and comfortable.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Complete refurbishments, repairs and general maintenance across 8 different homes and Head Office, working on both planned refurbishments and reactive repairs in occupied and vacant homes.
  • Carry out high-quality work safely, following health & safety, building regulations, and safeguarding guidelines, while minimizing disruption to the home.
  • Risk assess and carry out all work in a way that is safe, child‑friendly, and appropriate for occupied residential homes and respond promptly to urgent repairs
  • Conducting regular inspections and identifying maintenance needs
  • Completing a wide range of joinery tasks - constructing, repairing, and maintaining wooden fixtures such as doors, windows, flooring, skirting boards, and furniture.
  • Carrying out tiling, patch plastering, basic plumbing (e.g. fixing leaks, replacing taps), and minor decorating.
  • Assisting with the installation and maintenance of kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance of outdoor areas, including fencing, decking, sheds, and pathways and supporting seasonal tasks like gritting, clearing debris, or minor landscaping as needed.

Required Criteria
  • Full UK Driving Licence (maximum 6 penalty points)
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry, Joinery, or a related trade (or equivalent qualification)
  • Proven experience in multi-skilled property maintenance (e.g. plumbing, tiling, plastering)
  • Basic Health & Safety training (e.g. Manual Handling, Working at Height)
Desired Criteria
  • City & Guilds or similar trade certification (in joinery, plumbing, plastering, etc.)
  • Valid CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
  • Awareness of working in sensitive environments occupied residential settings (ideally with vulnerable people or children)
  • Awareness of safeguarding protocols and working in environments with additional safety and privacy considerations
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one)
