Job summary

Merlin Entertainments at Chessington World of Adventures Resort seeks a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias) to inspect, diagnose and repair complex electro-mechanical systems across the resort. You’ll troubleshoot electrical panels, drives, sensors and instrumentation while maintaining ride vehicles and pneumatic systems.

You will join a skilled team delivering safety-critical inspections and planned maintenance with a focus on reliability and availability during the season,

Qualifications

  • ONC, NVQ Level 3 or BTEC equivalent gained through an engineering apprenticeship or college route.
  • Post-apprenticeship / post-qualification engineering experience.
  • Experience within a maintenance engineering environment.
  • Experience working within manufacturing, automotive, rail, aerospace, marine, facilities engineering or similar technical environments would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out safety-critical inspections and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across rides and attraction systems.
  • Diagnose faults, complete reactive maintenance and repair, and accurately record maintenance activities.
  • Carry out planned maintenance including strip down and rebuild of attraction vehicles and mechanical systems.
  • Electrical inspections on control systems and ride components.
  • Follow safety practices and quality standards, including COSHH.

Using your expertise in fault finding, maintenance and diagnostics, you'll help keep complex electro-mechanical systems operating safely and reliably.

About the RoleJoin one of the UK's most unique engineering teams at Chessington World of Adventures, maintaining a diverse portfolio of rides and attractions in a safety-critical environment.As a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias), you'll inspect, maintain, diagnose and repair complex electro-mechanical systems across the resort. You'll troubleshoot electrical panels, control systems, sensors, drives and instrumentation, while also maintaining ride vehicles, pneumatic systems and mechanical equipment.

Working alongside a skilled team of engineers, you'll resolve faults, complete planned maintenance, conduct safety-critical inspections and drive ride availability throughout the season. You'll also play a key role in major ride overhauls, refurbishments and upgrade projects, gaining hands‑on experience with engineering systems rarely found in traditional maintenance environments.This role combines technical challenge, problem‑solving and continuous development, offering the opportunity to build specialist expertise while working on some of the UK's most exciting attractions.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities in this position will vary depending on the resort's operational season, and some duties may require working at height.

  • Carry out safety-critical inspections and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across rides,vehiclesand attraction systems.
  • Diagnose faults, complete reactive maintenance andrepair, and accurately record maintenance activities through maintenance management systems.
  • Carry out planned maintenance activities including, but not limited to:Strip down and rebuild of attraction vehicles, including trains, car and boatsStrip down and rebuild of mechanical brake assemblies (Mechanical)Strip down and resealing of pneumatic cylinders (Mechanical)Motor testing and trending (Electrical)Rewiring of panels (Electrical)Electrical inspections on control systems and ride components
  • Carry out electrical and mechanical fault finding and diagnostics across complex attraction systems.
  • Follow safety practices and quality standards, including compliance with HSG175.
  • Support preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports and logs in support of ongoing compliance requirements.
  • Maintain excellent workshop standards utilising 5S / LEAN methogologies.
  • Assist in auditing and ordering critical spare components for rides and attractions.
Shift Patterns

You'll work a structured pattern that includes early and late shifts to provide engineering cover across the attraction.Current shift times are:Open days: 06:00-14:30and14:00-22:30.Closed days: 07:00-15:30and10:00- 18:30(subject to operational requirements).The rota is specifically designed to provideregular weekends off throughout the year, offering a much better work-life balance than many people expect from a theme park engineering role.

Qualifications & Experience
  • This role would suit engineers with experience in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, FMCG, automotive, rail, aerospace, marine, facilities, automation or other heavy engineering environments.
  • An ONC, NVQ Level3 or BTEC equivalent gained through an engineering apprenticeship or college route.
  • Post-apprenticeship / post-qualification engineering experience.
  • Experience within a maintenance engineering environment.
  • Experience working within manufacturing, automotive, rail, aerospace, marine, facilities engineering or similar technical environments would be advantageous.
  • Inspection experience would be advantageous.
  • Full understanding of engineering-related statutory requirements, including COSHH.
  • Experience of planned preventative maintenance systems and processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving, diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience using technical manuals, risk assessments and engineering documentation.
  • Previous experience working within a theme park environment is not essential; engineering experience gained within other electrical, mechanical or technical environments is equally suitable.
  • Experience with PLCs, control systems, motors, sensors, pneumatics or mechanical systems would be advantageous.
