Job summary

Boots is seeking a proactive Multi-Skilled Engineer to join our engineering team in Nottingham. You will perform Planned Preventative Maintenance, respond to breakdowns, and support continuous improvement across our automated logistics facilities, including cranes, lifts, conveyors and transfer cars.

You will work in a 7-person team, undertake an apprentice-style development, require Level 3 electrical or mechanical qualification and Level 2 in the other, and demonstrate problem-solving, height

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship with Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical, plus Level 2 in the other.
• Experience in electro-mechanical engineering field.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities

• Planned Preventative Maintenance & Repairs: Ensure materials handling equipment and facilities are maintained, repaired, and improved to meet availability.
• Self-Management: Work largely unsupervised, prioritising tasks and meeting customer requirements efficiently.
• Collaboration: Work with Engineering Management, Improvement Engineers, fix managers, Control Room and Operations teams to maintain seamless operations.
• Continuous Improvement: Propose CI programs to enhance equipment performance and warehouse efficiency.
• Compliance & Safety: Maintain world-class standards in safety, regulatory compliance and housekeeping.
• Reporting: Complete shift/breakdown reports to support ongoing engineering improvements.

Shift Pattern: 3-2-2, 12-hour rotating days/nights (Panama shift pattern)

About the role

We are looking for a proactive and highly skilled Multi-Skilled Engineer to join our engineering team, providing essential Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), breakdown response, repair, and continuous improvement support to our Logistics Warehousing facilities. The role will involve working on a variety of automated systems, including pallet and tote box cranes, lifts, transfer cars, and conveyor networks, ensuring all equipment operates at optimal efficiency.

Key responsibilities

As a Multi-Skilled Engineer, you will be a key player in our 7-man team, providing engineering support across multiple interconnected automated logistics facilities. Your responsibilities will include:

• Planned Preventative Maintenance & Repairs: Ensuring all materials handling equipment and facilities are maintained, repaired, and continuously improved to meet availability expectations.
• Self-Management: You will work largely unsupervised, prioritising tasks effectively and ensuring that customer requirements are met in an efficient, high-quality manner.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Engineering Management, Improvement Engineers, first-line fix managers, the Control Room, and Operational teams to maintain seamless operations.
• Continuous Improvement: Raise Continuous Improvement (CI) programs to enhance equipment performance and overall warehouse efficiency.
• Compliance & Safety: Upholding world-class standards in security, health and safety, regulatory compliance, and housekeeping.
• Reporting: Ensure accurate shift/breakdown reports are completed, contributing to ongoing improvements in our engineering services.

What you'll need to have

• Qualifications: A time-served apprenticeship with a minimum Level 3 qualification in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, along with at least a Level 2 qualification in the other.
• Experience: experience in a similar electro-mechanical engineering field.
• Skills & Abilities: Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
• Ability to work at height.
• A 'Right First Time' approach to all tasks, ensuring efficiency and high-quality work.
• Motivation to lead and motivate others within the team.
• Innovation: A desire to promote innovation and continuous improvement across all working areas.

It would be great if you also have

• Experience with automation systems.
• Knowledge of risk assessments and maintenance planning.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar tools.
