Job description

Job Title: Multi Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias)
Location: Nazeing, Essex
Salary: Up to £60,500 p/a including overtime and shift bonuses
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Our client is seeking a fully qualified and enthusiastic Multi Skilled Engineer with strong electrical experience and 18th Edition certification to join their growing operations team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a leading manufacturer in the concrete block industry, where you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing site equipment and machinery.

You'll be involved in both electrical and mechanical maintenance, contributing to a busy, high-performing environment with plenty of opportunity for professional development and overtime earnings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and carry out planned preventative maintenance schedules.

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and support urgent repairs.

  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement and project work.

  • Install, maintain, modify, and repair electrical systems in factory and office areas.

  • Troubleshoot and test electrical systems, adhering to national safety standards.

  • Support mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic system maintenance.

  • Liaise with external contractors and other engineering professionals.

  • Support and mentor junior engineers.

  • Complete technical documentation and work records.

  • Ensure compliance with health & safety and company regulations.

  • Cover flexible shift times including early starts and late finishes when needed.

Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • 2365/2357 (or equivalent).

  • 18th Edition Electrical Certification.

  • Testing & Inspection 2391 (or equivalent).

  • ECS Gold Card (desirable but not essential).

  • Strong understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems (advantageous).

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and in a team.

  • Organised, dependable, and a good communicator.

Salary & Benefits:
  • Basic hourly rate: £23.32, with overtime at £32.71 after 45 hours/week.

  • Unsociable hours bonus: £5/hour (applies after 6pm and before 6am).

  • Expected annual earnings: up to £60,512.05, including overtime and shift allowances.

  • Annual salary increases based on company performance (historically 3-3.5%).

  • Yearly bonus depending on overall company performance.

  • 20 days annual leave + bank holidays (3-4 days to be kept for Christmas shutdown).

  • Paid lunch breaks (45 mins to 1 hour).

  • Company pension (5% employee / 4% employer contributions post-probation).

  • First day of sickness unpaid; thereafter SSP applies.

  • Paid training and development opportunities, including:

    • Welding

    • Grab truck

    • Forklift

    • LOBO scaffolding

    • Block machine & bander operations

Shift Patterns:

Peak (10 months of the year):

  • 50 hours/week

  • Shifts: 7am-5pm or 1pm-11pm

Off-Peak (2 months of the year):

  • 45 hours/week

  • Shifts: 6am-3pm or 2pm-11pm

Please note: Shifts may be extended up to 1am depending on business needs. Flexibility is essential.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work Saturdays once a month for planned preventative maintenance.

  • Flexibility to adjust start/finish times for holiday cover or emergency breakdowns.

  • Initial weeks/months may involve working day shifts only during training (no unsocial hour bonuses during this period).
