Multi Skilled Engineer

Reporting to: Technical Services Manager
Department: Bournville/Cadbury's, FM Mechanical
Location: Birmingham
Shifts: Days 4 on 4 off 12 Hours

Job description:

  1. Repairing and Maintaining Mechanical Equipment - Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily but not necessarily exclusively based on mechanical principles.
  2. Identifying potential failure or deterioration of Machinery and Equipment.
  3. Determine cause of potential failure or performance deterioration, and either complete remedial work during shift or brief Manager or Supervisor on issue, cause and recommended solution.
  4. Remove and replace worn components.
  5. Pipe fitting and Plumbing techniques to include the assembly and installation of pipe sections, fittings and fixtures for Steam, Hot and cold water systems, Heating systems, Sprinkler systems, Drains and Drainage systems, Industrial production and processing systems.
  6. Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems.
  7. Carry out Preventative Maintenance tasks as scheduled to the required standard.
  8. Carry out monitoring, repairs, fault diagnosis & inspection of key equipment such as Cooling Towers, Pressure systems, Production machinery and equipment, etc. to keep Client compliant with legislation.
  9. Use manuals and failure history to develop preventative tasks.
  10. Prevent losses (equipment damage), accidents or injuries through use or maintenance of equipment.
  11. Conduct continuous Equipment observation, identifying potential safety risks and taking necessary actions to remove the hazard.
  12. Conduct risk assessment prior to any maintenance work and ensure conclusions are implemented prior to start of work to remove hazards.
  13. Ensure equipment is handed back to production in 100% safe condition.
  14. Be aware of incident reports and work with operational managers to promptly implement solutions to prevent re-occurrence.
  15. Complete corrective actions during shift to return equipment to standard output, quality and waste levels.
  16. Respond immediately to equipment failures during your shift and while on Call.
  17. Problem solving faults and breakdowns on Steam Boilers.
  18. Effect the solution, and report on nature of fault, cause and solution via computerised maintenance system.
  19. Identify, recommend and implement Equipment and process improvements.
  20. Identify opportunities to reduce the time taken for activities and develop and recommend solutions to improve the time taken.
  21. Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications.
  22. Inspect, examine, or test installed systems or pipe lines, using pressure gauge, observation, or other methods.
  23. Attach pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
  24. Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, or related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, or threading joints.
  25. Fabricate, assemble, or disassemble manufactured products by hand.
  26. Updating and Using Relevant Knowledge - Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
  27. Training and Teaching Others.
  28. Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates - providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

Person:
  1. Our client would be interested in a candidate who has done an apprenticeship and is a served Mechanical and Engineering Maintenance Engineer.
  2. Our client requires someone to work on shifts and call out rota as required with weekend and overtime working when necessary to provide breakdown and Maintenance cover on a varied range of equipment.
  3. Must work well in a team and can work on own initiative.
  4. Must be self-motivating, flexible, resilient, able and confident.

Skills:
  1. Repair and maintenance of Mechanical servicing, repairing, adjusting and replacing component parts.
  2. Ability to fault find and have good problem solving and organisation skills.
  3. Use of hand and power tools.
  4. Pipe fitting and plumbing techniques.
  5. Use of pipe fitting equipment including cutting, threading, jointing, bending etc.
  6. Planning of pipework system layouts, installation and repairs.
  7. Working knowledge of Industrial Steam Boilers.
  8. Industrial Steam Boiler Maintenance.
  9. Use of Brazing and Soldering equipment.
  10. Experience of Fan applications.
  11. Ability to complete concise comprehensive work records and reports.
  12. Effective communication skills.
  13. Experience of dealing with demanding Client requirements.
