Job summary

Reading Borough Council is seeking a qualified Electrician to join our Property Services team in Reading. The role covers reactive repairs, electrical testing, rewiring and maintenance across council housing, delivering a safe and reliable service to residents.

The position is full-time, on-site, with a 8:00am–4:00pm schedule and a company vehicle for work use. You will be supplied specialist tools, equipment, and a PDA, with training and progression opportunities.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation including AM2.
• City & Guilds 2391 in Inspection and Testing or equivalent.
• City & Guilds 2382 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
• Experience in electrical repairs, maintenance and rewiring.
• Experience of refurbishment and general building repairs.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Full, current driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out day-to-day electrical repairs, maintenance and rewiring in houses, flats and maisonettes.
• Undertake electrical testing, planned works and major repairs.
• Diagnose faults, identify materials and complete work safely and efficiently.
• Work independently and alongside colleagues to deliver high standards.
• Treat residents and customers with courtesy and professionalism.
• Maintain records, paperwork and ensure work areas are left clean and safe.
• Participate in an out-of-hours emergency call-out rota.
