Job description

Job Purpose

This is a key position, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across a number of site locations within a specified region.

To carry out planned and reactive maintenance and repairs to a range of electrical, mechanical, and building assets in ASDA stores in an efficient and cost-effective manner, whilst complying with the specified Company Health and Safety procedures.

Although not an exhaustive list, this is likely to include bakery and catering equipment, mechanical and electrical systems and assets, lighting systems, building fabric, water services, and other static and portable electrical equipment. General maintenance and first look is required for all HVAC/Fire and Security and electrical and general issues.

Key Accountabilities

  1. To represent the company in a professional manner at all times and develop a good working relationship with City and ASDA colleagues.
  2. To complete all necessary PPMs and ensure all PPM remedial tasks are accurately logged and actioned, ensuring legal compliance.
  3. To supervise the Maintenance Assistant (MA), provide regular coaching, and support them to perform their role in line with company processes.
  4. To respond promptly and positively to service call requests from the Helpdesk and to assess the requirements of the job and carry out repairs as and where required.
  5. To prioritise maintenance and repair work to achieve agreed timescales and contract SLA’s.
  6. To communicate with Asda Store Management teams and RES of any repair and maintenance issues that are likely to affect the smooth running of the store.
  7. To carry out surveys and complete reports as required.
  8. To carry out alterations and installations within your technical competence and in accordance with current specifications.
  9. To complete general repairs and maintenance to ASDA store sites as designated by the RES, e.g., repairs to the building fabric and surfaces.
  10. To assist other MSTs in other Stores/Regions when requested by the RES.
  11. To recruit and select suitably qualified and experienced MA to ensure continuous service delivery in stores, following company processes and policies in recruitment.
  12. To maintain accurate administration, including recording jobs live and effective utilisation of time.
  13. To attend training courses as necessary and ensure personal job skills keep pace with technical developments, which may include overnight stays.
  14. To comply with the company Health and Safety Policy at all times.
  15. Ensure current compliance documentation required for relevant allocated tasks are completed to the required quality standards.
  16. Ensure that your team attend and complete all mandatory training, including induction programmes and eLearning modules within the timescales required.
  17. To provide on-the-job coaching and support to the team to ensure they are able to perform to the required standards within their role.
  18. To deliver technical coaching solutions to the standards required, encouraging active participation and supporting learning.
  19. Complete all induction and training administration, including probationary reviews, to ensure team competence and awareness of performance.
  20. To participate in an Out of Hours standby rota (minimum 1 week in 4) and to complete general repairs to plumbing systems and drainage during Out of Hours Standby.
  21. To complete basic repairs to plumbing systems and drainage during Out of Hours Standby.
  22. Carry out first look for equipment such as Fire and Security, HVAC, electrical, and general issues.
  23. To comply with any other reasonable requests or instructions from the RES or other City Management Team.

People Responsibility

  1. To interview, recruit, oversee, and manage the Maintenance Assistant/Mobile Maintenance Assistant and Multi-site Maintenance Assistant as recruited against the stores they cover.
  2. To update Cascade, managing holidays and absences.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

General Education

  • Desirable: GCSE Standard

Professional/Academic/Vocational Qualifications

  • C&G 2382 (18th edition)
  • Level 3 core Electrical qualification, e.g., C&G 2330, C&G 2365 (with relevant experience), C&G 2365, etc.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with completion of electrical certification
  • City & Guilds 2391 Testing and Inspection
  • Time served in electrical discipline or relevant industry experience in a similar role.

Specific Knowledge

  • 3-phase electrics and its applications
