Job description

Job summary: We have an amazing new opportunity for experienced mental health practitioners with professional backgrounds as a clinical psychologist, mental health nurse, social worker or occupational therapist to train and work as Approved and Responsible Clinicians in Mental Health Acute Inpatient Services.

These are newly created training posts that are attached to permanent acute inpatient posts and have been developed as part of an ongoing agenda to promote new roles within the Trust. The training posts have been banded at an 8c Agenda for change (AFC) pay grade with this banding increasing to 8d AfC when trainees achieve their Approved Clinician status and start to work autonomously in this role.

It is expected that applicants will be motivated to achieve Approved Clinician status within 1 year of being appointed, and the training posts are offered on a full-time basis to support this. Permanent posts are also offered on a full-time basis to enable the role to be established and embedded in the MDT, and within this there will be scope for successful applicants to continue to develop or use specialist areas of profession-related interest.

Main duties of the job

Applicants are expected to have been working at a consultant/senior level for their profession and be able to demonstrate significant post-qualification experience that enables them to work autonomously, make independent decisions with complex cases, and evidence successful MDT working and effective leadership and service development.

They will be motivated to engage with a programme of competence and skills training that will support the development of a portfolio to be submitted to the local Regional Approvals Panel; progression to 8d is reliant on successful approval.

The post-holder will be required to participate in the second on-call rota providing out-of-hours support to services in the Mental Health Care Group.
