Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) are committed to providing the people of Northamptonshire with an experienced and extensive Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy service. Our outpatient team is looking for an MSK Specialist Physiotherapist (Band 6) or experienced Physiotherapist with an interest in MSK (Band 5-6 development), with a passion for high-quality care to work within our team, demonstrating advanced assessment and management skills and supporting both patients and family members alike with their presenting complaint.

The post holder will be responsible for managing a full caseload of complex neuro-musculoskeletal patients, to include prioritising referrals, supporting the training and development of other team members, and mentoring students and junior staff. The opportunity to participate in local and countywide service developments is available for suitable candidates, and we encourage personal and team development through internal and external training. Our team offers an established First Contact Practitioner service and specialist clinics, including Pelvic Health, Accident and Emergency, and Rheumatology. We welcome initiative to further expand the skillset of our workforce and enhance the lives of the residents of Northamptonshire.

As a MSK Specialist Physiotherapist, you will

  • Manage a full caseload of neuro-musculoskeletal patients
  • Provide bespoke, individualised treatment programmes that are patient centred and goal specific
  • Be professionally accountable for the delivery of care
  • Utilise technology to enable you to update records as you go
  • Delegate treatment plans to Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioners
  • Provide regular supervision to Junior Staff
  • Actively participate in your own regular supervision with senior colleagues
  • Support Student Physiotherapists whilst on placement within the service
  • Participate and contribute to in-service training programmes
  • Participate in audit and service development projects

Essential criteria

  • Professional qualification, Bsc Physiotherapy or pre reg Msc Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • HCPC registration as Physiotherapist
  • Evidence of Post graduate CPD
  • Evidence of undertaking regular supervision and appraisals

Desirable criteria

  • Member of CSP.
  • Portfolio evidence of learning
  • Post graduate qualifications

Knowledge & Understanding

Essential criteria

  • Up to date with professional practice and research
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implication for services including quality and audit
  • Understanding of legal responsibilities
  • Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust policies
  • The ability to deal with difficult emotional and social circumstances, including patients who have been given poor prognosis
  • Specialist knowledge within MSK physiotherapy supported by relevant experience, including assessment, intervention and best practice guidelines, evidence based practice

Experience

  • Experience of working as a Junior Physiotherapist or equivalent in an MSK setting
  • Experience of managing a diverse caseload of MSK patients, including primary care (GP) referrals and Orthopaedic (Consultant) referrals
  • Rotational experience including at least Orthopaedics & MSK
  • Supervision experience of support staff i.e physiotherapy assistants, or work experience students
  • Experience of leading, organising and running a rehabilitation exercise class.
  • Evidence of NHS experience
