Main duties of the job
  1. Work as part of the MRI department team delivering a high-quality service to patients, maintaining safety, and adhering to policies and protocols.
  2. Carry out clinical and administrative duties alongside Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, Care Assistants, and Radiography Students.
  3. Provide imaging services for over 300,000 people across various regions.

Job responsibilities
  1. Perform MRI examinations to the highest standards, using professional judgment, and ensure patient safety, including emergency and lone working situations.
  2. Maintain expertise on all equipment and prioritize workload based on clinical needs.
  3. Uphold professional standards per guidelines from the College of Radiographers and the Health Professions Council, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  4. Check patient details, ensure referral appropriateness, and verify pregnancy status when necessary.
  5. Supervise and teach other radiology staff and students.
  6. Organize workload and staffing efficiently, including emergency cases.
  7. Undertake training for intravenous injections and contrast media administration.
  8. Identify and escalate abnormalities to clinicians promptly.
  9. Transfer images electronically to other hospital sites as required.
  10. Support extended working hours, including on-call, weekends, and holidays.
  11. Participate in quality assurance and safety procedures.
  12. Communicate effectively with diverse patients, obtaining consent and providing aftercare information.
  13. Operate independently in scanning activities, with physician input when necessary.
  14. Participate in major incident procedures and ensure high standards of patient care and safety.
  15. Use hospital systems for data input and retrieval, and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
  16. Assist with clerical duties and report equipment faults.
  17. Engage in personal development and maintain a safe, clean working environment.
  18. Handle complaints appropriately and report staff absences.
  19. Perform any other tasks deemed reasonable by the Superintendent Radiographer.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Professional Training
  • BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or Diploma of the College of Radiographers
  • Recent and relevant CPD evidence
  • Qualification in Intravenous Cannulation
  • PG Cert in MRI
  • Qualification in IOFB Reporting
Experience and Knowledge
  • Understanding of individual and team working
  • At least two years post-qualification MRI experience
  • Knowledge of MRI safety and screening protocols
  • Experience with cardiac MRI, including stress studies
  • Experience in protocol development and referral vetting
  • Supervision experience of Assistant Practitioners
Skills and Abilities
  • Support and supervise staff and students as a Level 1 Trained Practitioner
  • Recognize patient needs and respond appropriately in distressing situations
  • Communicate complex information empathetically and effectively
  • Analyze MR images for diagnostic quality and artefacts
