London, UK

About us

The MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) is a biomedical research institute where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine. LMS is one of three directly funded MRC research institutes and enjoy close links with our partners at Imperial College London and at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

About the role

The Reprogramming and Chromatin group led by Prof Petra Hajkova investigates molecular processes that underlie global erasure of epigenetic information ( https://lms.mrc.ac.uk/research-group/reprogramming-and-chromatin/ ). We have a particular interest in deciphering the mechanisms underlying the waves of developmental global DNA demethylation (Amouroux et al, 2016, Hill et al, Nature 2018; Huang et al, Nature 2021) and the changes in chromatin structure that accompany this process.

The focus of this project is to implement and optimise new epigenome mapping approaches developed by our collaborators at New England Biolabs (team lead by Dr Sriharsa Pradhan) for use on gametes, early mouse embryos and minute biological samples. The post holder is expected to be technically skilled, lead the interactions between the two collaborative teams and to contribute to the supervision of PhD and MSc/MRes students in the laboratory. For further information about the role, please contact Prof Petra Hajkova directly (petra.hajkova@lms.mrc.ac.uk).

What we offer

As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer defined benefit pension scheme and excellent holiday entitlement (30 days plus 2.5 privilege days & 8 bank holidays), family friendly policies (6 months full pay maternity & adoption leave), a range of shopping/travel discounts, access to our Employee Assistant Programme Scheme, Health and Wellbeing Support and a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme. Please follow this link to find out more -Benefits
