Job description

Job Spec – Mounting Operative

To mount print plates in preparation for print press operations, ensuring there is no waiting time and that you are always ahead of production demand. You assist with any plate/registration issues.

Job Details:

  • Hourly Rate: £11.80 per hour
  • Working Week: 5-day rota out of 7 (weekends included)
  • Working Hours: 12-hour shifts / Earlies & Nights (must do both)
  • Duration: 12 Weeks Temp to Perm

Core Duties

  • Prioritise mounting jobs for each press.
  • Use the correct works ticket, plates, and sleeves prior to mounting.
  • Clean all plates (front & back) and sleeves with the correct solvent.
  • Verify that works ticket and lay sheet match before proceeding.
  • Match plates with lay sheet and ensure correct PIFA is used.
  • Align cameras according to job specifications.
  • Get the job specification checked and signed off by the Team Leader after setup.
  • Use the correct mounting tape for each colour, as per the works ticket or your knowledge.
  • Log mounting jobs in the APS system.
  • Complete and sign all paperwork on the works ticket upon job completion.
  • Understand the use of the Radius system.
  • Keep the working area clean, tidy, and free of obstructions.
  • Communicate any faults to the Mounting Co-ordinator, Team Leader, or Shift Manager.

Other Responsibilities

  • Operate in line with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards including BRC, ISO, & A2 standards.
  • Organise workload according to the daily print programme, meeting targets and customer needs.
  • Locate, inspect, and handle plates.
  • Apply and strip backing tape using the applicator/de-mounter.
  • Mount and demount printing plates onto sleeves, ensuring dimensions meet customer specifications.
  • Operate the Plate Cleaner and ensure plates are cleaned before filing, with proper control documentation.
  • Store and identify plates for future use.
  • Meet all quality standards.
  • Assist with production and equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Organise mounting in line with the production schedule, planning no more than 48 hours in advance.
  • Check orders, plates, process control, and paperwork beforehand; notify the Shift Manager of any issues.
  • Perform any reasonable tasks assigned by management.
  • Adhere to health and safety standards at all times.

Skills, Capabilities, and Attributes

  • No experience required.
  • Previous experience in a production environment is essential.
  • Familiarity with quality, health, safety, and environmental standards in manufacturing.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing (e.g., 5S) is preferred.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts on a rotating basis covering days and nights.

A reasonable level of fitness is required, as the role involves physical activities such as lifting and bending.
