About the Family Stores:

The Salvation Army has over 130 Family Stores that sell a range of quality donated goods, including clothing, furniture, linen, and homeware. No two days are the same, with varying customers, donations, and items processed and sold.

About the Role:

This role is crucial to our store's success, primarily responsible for providing excellent customer and donor experiences to encourage repeat visits.

We seek a customer service all-rounder with a keen eye for detail, capable of working in a fast-paced, high-stock retail environment. Tasks may include serving customers and donors, as well as working in stock processing.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve targets and maintain store standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing excellent customer service to customers and donors
  • Receiving, sorting, pricing, and merchandising donated goods
  • Processing sales and handling cash accurately, including end-of-day cashing up
  • Ensuring the store is well-presented, stocked, and tidy
  • Adhering to policies, health and safety, and audit procedures
  • Contributing to a positive team culture and general store duties

Person Specification:

  • Excellent customer service skills with sound judgment and de-escalation abilities
  • Resilient, positive, and people-oriented team player, able to relate to diverse backgrounds
  • Physically fit for regular lifting tasks
  • Proficient with retail technology such as POS systems and tablets
  • Self-managing, able to prioritize and adapt under pressure
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Respectful, honest, and transparent work ethic aligned with The Salvation Army's values
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand, with police clearance required

Hours of Work: Part-time, 20 hours per week. Workdays are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, subject to change based on organizational needs. Family stores operate on some public holidays.

Hourly Rate: $26 per hour
