Job Details

This role is categorized as hybrid, requiring the successful candidate to report to Concord, NC three times per week, with flexibility to support weekend live race events.

About the Role

The GM Motorsports Program seeks a race strategy analyst to develop race strategy tools and support teams in Sportscar events. Initial focus will be on merging existing AI/ML tools for IndyCar and NASCAR, adapting them for WEC and IMSA, and developing a cutting-edge race-strategy platform for multiple series.

You will perform strategy analysis, develop models, and collaborate with internal teams to optimize race outcomes and implement real-time strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply data science and modeling techniques to enhance race strategy tools.
• Refine AI/ML models and develop simulation platforms.
• Create tire degradation and vehicle pace models.
• Design visualizations to convey insights effectively.
• Verify and improve race strategy tools through testing and collaboration.
• Support in-event analysis for IMSA and WEC races.
• Work with diverse technical teams across GM and motorsports series.
• Co-develop production race strategy software.
• Transfer knowledge between different racing series.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
• 7+ years in top-level motorsports (NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC) with 2+ years developing strategy tools.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
• Experience with AI/ML modeling and industry tools.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to travel 10% within the US.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in tire modeling, simulation workflows, machine learning libraries, and big data tools.
