This role is categorized as hybrid, requiring the successful candidate to report to Concord, NC three times per week, with some support needed for live race events during weekends, necessitating a flexible schedule.

The Role

The GM Motorsports Program seeks a race strategy analyst to develop race strategy tools and support teams in Sportscar program events. The role involves merging existing AI/ML-based race strategy tools for IndyCar and NASCAR, adapting them for WEC and IMSA, and developing new tools to enhance race outcomes.

Responsibilities include developing analysis tools for BOP management, implementing real-time strategy tools, collaborating with internal teams, and supporting various racing series with data analysis and software development.

What You’ll Do

  • Apply Data Science and Modeling techniques to develop and refine race strategy tools for pre-race planning and live event decision-making.
  • Enhance existing AI/ML models and develop simulation platforms.
  • Create and refine tire degradation models.
  • Design visualizations to communicate insights effectively.
  • Verify and improve race strategy tools through testing and collaboration.
  • Support vehicle pace analysis, session planning, and strategy development.
  • Work with diverse technical teams across GM and its motorsports divisions.
  • Co-develop production race strategy software and transfer learning approaches across series.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in top-level motorsports series and 2+ years developing strategy tools.
  • Knowledge of motorsports race strategy tools and analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML modeling and industry techniques.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor others.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% within the US.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in tire modeling and simulation workflows.
  • Knowledge of machine learning libraries and big data tools.
