Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid, requiring the candidate to report to Concord, NC three times per week, with flexibility for weekend race events.

Responsibilities
  1. Apply data science and modeling techniques to develop race strategy tools, including AI/ML models.
  2. Develop simulation platforms and tire degradation models for race predictions.
  3. Create visualizations to convey insights effectively, collaborating with IT and software teams.
  4. Verify race strategy tools for accuracy, collaborating with IMSA and WEC teams.
  5. Analyze vehicle pace, track migration, traffic, and fuel strategies to optimize race performance.
  6. Work with GM and motorsports teams to develop and support race strategy tools.
  7. Co-develop race strategy software with data science and IT teams.
  8. Apply analysis techniques across different racing series to validate and refine models.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years in top-level motorsports series (NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC, etc.) with 2+ years developing strategy tools.
  • Experience with motorsports race strategy tools and analysis during live events.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML modeling techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to travel within the US (~10%).

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with tire modeling, simulation workflows, and machine learning libraries.
  • Knowledge of big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, SQL, NoSQL).
