Job Description:

This role within the GM Motorsports Program involves developing performance metrics, conceptualizing innovative analysis methods, and implementing these techniques to enhance on-track performance. As a Senior Performance Engineer, you will focus on validating, refining, and applying new tools and methods to optimize vehicle setups for specific events and explore new directions for future vehicle development. You will collaborate closely with the Performance Engineering group, GM Motorsports team, and customer race teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with GM supported teams, engineering groups, and personnel to identify analysis areas for maximum benefit.
  • Answering questions across all GM Motorsports groups and building collective knowledge.
  • Brainstorming innovative ways to achieve greater performance.
  • Training others in models and analysis techniques.
  • Communicating findings and updates effectively.
  • Improving analysis methods and vehicle dynamics understanding.
  • Prototyping and validating new ideas against track and test data.
  • Working with software teams to implement solutions.
  • Exploring and pushing the boundaries of current tools and techniques.
  • Collaborating with core engineering and race series groups.
  • Conducting conceptual studies for development efforts.
  • Utilizing simulation and analysis tools to improve on-track performance.
  • Presenting findings through reports and in-person discussions.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in top-level motorsports series (NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC, etc.).
  • Knowledge of simulation workflows, offline and DIL simulator.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C#, or similar.
  • Experience analyzing on-track performance using vehicle dynamics and statistical methods.
  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.

This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Race engineering experience with vehicle setup, race procedures, and strategy.
  • Proficiency in motorsports data analysis software (Pi Toolbox, Atlas, Motec, etc.).
  • Experience with multibody modeling and simulation (Dymola/Modelica, ADAMS).
  • Knowledge of tire modeling, testing, and validation.
  • Experience with aerodynamic testing and CFD applications.
  • Familiarity with vehicle testing methods and data reduction techniques.
