Job Description:

This role within the GM Motorsports Program involves developing performance metrics, conceptualizing innovative analysis methods, and implementing these techniques to enhance on-track performance. As a Senior Performance Engineer, you will focus on validating, refining, and applying new tools and methods to optimize vehicle setups for specific events and explore new directions for future vehicle development. Collaboration with the Performance Engineering group and interaction with the broader GM Motorsports team and customer race teams are essential.

Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating with GM supported teams, engineering groups, and personnel to identify analysis areas for maximum benefit
  • Answering questions and building knowledge across GM Motorsports groups
  • Brainstorming and implementing innovative performance solutions
  • Training team members on models and analysis techniques
  • Presenting findings through reports and in-person discussions
  • Improving analysis methods and vehicle dynamics understanding
  • Working with software teams to implement solutions
  • Exploring limits of current tools and developing new techniques
  • Conducting conceptual studies to guide development
  • Utilizing simulation and analysis tools to enhance performance
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • 5+ years experience in top-level motorsports series (e.g., NASCAR, F1, IMSA)
  • Knowledge of simulation workflows and vehicle performance optimization
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, C#
  • Experience analyzing on-track performance using vehicle dynamics and statistical methods
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Race engineering experience and knowledge of race car setup and procedures
  • Proficiency with motorsports data analysis software (Pi Toolbox, Atlas, Motec)
  • Experience with multibody modeling and CFD applications
  • Knowledge of tire and aerodynamic testing and modeling
