Job Description

This role within the GM Motorsports Program involves developing performance metrics, conceptualizing innovative analysis methods, and implementing these techniques to enhance on-track performance. As a Senior Performance Engineer, you will focus on validating, refining, and applying new tools and methods to optimize vehicle setups for specific events and explore new directions for future vehicle development. Close collaboration with the Performance Engineering group and regular interaction with the broader GM Motorsports team and customer race teams are essential.

Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with GM supported teams, engineering groups, and personnel to identify analysis areas for maximum benefit.
  2. Address open questions across all GM Motorsports groups, enhancing collective knowledge.
  3. Innovate and brainstorm new ways to achieve greater performance.
  4. Train team members in understanding models and analysis techniques.
  5. Communicate findings, updates, and tool developments effectively.
  6. Improve analysis methods and vehicle dynamics understanding through reimagining solutions and prototyping ideas.
  7. Work with the GM Software team to implement solutions and push the boundaries of current tools.
  8. Conduct conceptual studies to guide development efforts and explore the limits of simulation and analysis tools.
  9. Present findings and recommendations clearly through reports and in-person discussions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in top-level motorsports series (e.g., NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC).
  • Knowledge of simulation workflows, offline simulation, and DIL simulators.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C#, or similar languages.
  • Experience analyzing on-track performance using vehicle dynamics principles and statistical methods.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Race engineering experience, including car setup, race procedures, and strategy.
  • Proficiency with motorsports data analysis software (Pi Toolbox, Atlas, Motec).
  • Experience with multibody modeling, tire modeling, aerodynamic testing, and CFD.
  • Knowledge of vehicle testing methods and data reduction techniques.
