Job Description:

This role within the GM Motorsports Program involves developing performance metrics, conceptualizing innovative analysis methods, and implementing these techniques to enhance on-track performance. As a Senior Performance Engineer, you will focus on validating, refining, and applying new tools and methods to optimize vehicle setups for specific events and explore new directions for future vehicle development. Close collaboration with the Performance Engineering group and regular interaction with the broader GM Motorsports team and customer race teams are essential.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with GM supported teams, engineering groups, and personnel to identify analysis areas for maximum benefit.
  • Answering questions across GM Motorsports groups to build collective knowledge.
  • Brainstorming innovative ways to improve performance.
  • Training team members on models and analysis techniques.
  • Communicating findings and updates effectively through reports and presentations.
  • Improving analysis methods and vehicle dynamics understanding by prototyping and validating new ideas.
  • Working with software teams to implement solutions in production tools.
  • Exploring the limits of current simulation and analysis tools and developing improvements.
  • Conducting conceptual studies to guide development efforts.
  • Applying simulation and analysis techniques to enhance on-track performance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in top-level motorsports series (e.g., NASCAR, F1, IMSA, IndyCar, WEC).
  • Knowledge of simulation workflows, offline and DIL simulator, and experience with performance optimization tools.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C#, or similar programming languages.
  • Experience analyzing on-track performance using vehicle dynamics and statistical methods.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Race engineering experience, including race car setup, event prep, and race strategy.
  • Proficiency with motorsports data analysis software (Pi Toolbox, Atlas, Motec, etc.).
  • Experience with multibody modeling (Dymola/Modelica, ADAMS).
  • Knowledge of tire modeling, construction, testing, and CFD application.
