Job Description

This role within the GM Motorsports Program involves developing performance metrics, conceptualizing innovative analysis methods, and implementing these techniques to enhance on-track performance. As a Senior Performance Engineer, you will focus on validating, refining, and applying new tools and methods to optimize vehicle setups for specific events and explore new directions for future vehicle development. Collaboration with the Performance Engineering group and regular interaction with the broader GM Motorsports team and customer race teams are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with GM supported teams, engineering groups, and personnel to identify analysis areas for maximum benefit.
  • Answer questions across all GM Motorsports groups, building collective knowledge.
  • Brainstorm and develop new methods to improve performance.
  • Train others in analysis techniques and tools.
  • Communicate findings and updates effectively through reports and presentations.
  • Innovate and prototype new analysis solutions, validating against track and test data.
  • Work with software teams to implement solutions and improve tools.
  • Push the boundaries of current analysis tools and techniques.
  • Conduct conceptual studies to guide development efforts.
  • Explore and implement advanced simulation and analysis tools for on-track performance.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in top-level motorsports series (NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC, etc.).
  • Knowledge of simulation workflows, including offline and DIL simulators.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C#, or similar programming languages.
  • Experience analyzing on-track performance using vehicle dynamics and statistical methods.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.

Preferred:

  • Race engineering experience with vehicle setup and race procedures.
  • Proficiency with motorsports data analysis software (Pi Toolbox, Atlas, Motec, etc.).
  • Experience with multibody modeling, tire modeling, aerodynamic testing, and data reduction techniques.
