Job Description:

This role within the GM Motorsports Program involves developing performance metrics, conceptualizing innovative analysis methods, and implementing these techniques to enhance on-track performance. As a Senior Performance Engineer, you will focus on validating, refining, and applying new tools and methods to optimize vehicle setups for specific events and explore new directions for future vehicle development. Close collaboration with the Performance Engineering group and regular interaction with the broader GM Motorsports team and customer race teams are essential.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Collaborating with GM supported teams, engineering groups, and personnel to identify key analysis areas and benefit opportunities.
  2. Answering questions across all GM Motorsports groups to build collective knowledge.
  3. Brainstorming and developing innovative performance enhancement methods.
  4. Training team members on models and analysis techniques.
  5. Communicating findings, updates, and recommendations effectively.
  6. Improving analysis methods and vehicle dynamics understanding through prototyping and validation.
  7. Working with software teams to implement solutions.
  8. Exploring and utilizing advanced simulation and analysis tools.
  9. Presenting clear, actionable reports and in-person updates.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years in top-level motorsports series (e.g., NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC).
  • Experience with simulation workflows, offline simulation, and DIL simulator.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C#, or similar languages.
  • Strong analytical skills in vehicle dynamics and statistical methods.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • Eligible for relocation benefits.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Race engineering experience with vehicle setup, race preparation, and strategy.
  • Proficiency with motorsports data analysis software (Pi Toolbox, Atlas, Motec).
  • Experience with multibody modeling, tire modeling, aerodynamic testing, and CFD.
  • Knowledge of vehicle testing methods and data reduction.
