Job summary

Pulse Staffing Limited is seeking an experienced Locum Anatomical Pathology Technician to join a NHS mortuary service in Surrey. You will support post-mortem examinations, handle admissions, storage and transfer of deceased patients, and maintain accurate records with dignity and compliance.

This role requires a Certificate or Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (APT) or NVQ Level 3 in the same field, plus hospital mortuary experience.

Qualifications

• Certificate or Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (APT).
• NVQ Level 3 in Anatomical Pathology Technology (or equivalent).
• Previous experience working within a hospital mortuary environment.
• Strong understanding of mortuary procedures, legislation, and best practice standards.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Support and assist with post-mortem examinations in accordance with departmental procedures and national guidelines.
• Undertake the admission, storage, release, and transfer of deceased patients within the mortuary.
• Prepare the mortuary environment, equipment, and specimens for post-mortem examinations.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping and documentation relating to mortuary activities.
• Maintain the dignity and respectful handling of the deceased at all times.
• Adhere to health and safety, infection prevention, and governance requirements.
• Participate in quality assurance activities and contribute to the efficient running of the mortuary service.
• Liaise effectively with pathologists, funeral directors, coroners' officers, and other healthcare professionals.
• Support the maintenance and monitoring of mortuary equipment and facilities.
