The Role

As a Mortgage Underwriter, your expertise will be crucial in our client's core lending operations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Efficiently complete and meticulously review mortgage applications, examining all supporting documentation to verify accuracy and ensure completeness.

  • Conduct thorough analysis of applicants' credit history and financial information to accurately assess eligibility and affordability.

  • Critically analyse the inherent risks within each application, proactively requesting additional information as necessary.

  • Vigilantly identify any signs of suspicious or fraudulent activity to protect both the customer and the Society.

  • Assess every customer's individual circumstances and the evidence presented, consistently striving for positive and fair customer outcomes.

  • Utilise your sharp analytical skills, to make well-reasoned mortgage lending judgements, sanctioning or declining applications.

  • Document and effectively communicate the rationale behind all application approvals or rejections to relevant stakeholders.

  • Act as a key point of contact for Mortgage Intermediaries, Branches, and internal Society teams, promptly addressing queries regarding the mortgage application process.

  • Ensure unwavering compliance with all regulatory standards, internal mortgage policies, procedures, and guidelines, including AML and KYC principles.

  • Contribute to the achievement of minimum KPI requirements and targets, playing a vital role in the team's overall success.

The Person

In order to be successful for this position, applicants must demonstrate the following Skills and Experience.

  • Minimum 5 GCSES including Math, English

  • Minimum 3 years experience working as a mortgage underwriter

  • Ability to make decisions regarding finacial applications

  • Confident engaging with customers and external clients

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Experience working within a structured fast-paced environment

  • Due to the nature of this role it is essential -Successful applicants will be subject to our pre employment checks. These include credit checks , criminal record checks , Access NI basic check
