Job description

What will you do as a Casual-Wear Designer?

  • Trend research and sourcing – work closely with the head of design to identify and create seasonal casual trends for the Monsoon Accessorize brand including key fashion shapes, fabrication, prints, embroideries, and colors for the season.
  • Ability to plan and range build to deliver a diverse yet cohesive collection.
  • Contribute to new reference material, including industry knowledge and research for the department to use throughout the season.
  • Protect and ensure identified trends and key items are completed through to the sign-off stage.
  • Create unique, in-house collections that deliver newness and commerciality.
  • Compile strong reference material, including researching catwalk and comp shop trends, industry feedback, etc., to support mood boards and color palettes.
  • Producing/creating design specs and embroidery layouts. To create beautiful first samples and liaise with factories/supply base to produce best in class for the department with attention to detail.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day running of the department/self, to ensure samples arrive on time and are executed to the desired level. Ensuring all deadlines are met and critical path is followed.
  • Work with buying and merchandising teams to engineer garments into price architecture.
  • Ownership of the casual category to deliver new balanced collections for the department.
  • Technical skills and finesse to translate brand values through beautiful embroideries and embellishments.
  • Fabric sourcing. Innovation into price points. Continue to source and push boundaries on fabric innovation/yarn dyes and plains.
  • Passionate about casual daywear and delivering the best for the business.
  • International travel may be required.

Critical Path Management

  • Responsible for critical path planning of design time for the casual category.
  • Where required, assist in the planning of the Critical Path for product areas, ensuring effective communication with suppliers and relevant team members.
  • Meet deadlines and the critical path.

People and Talent Management

  • Motivate and inspire the print department to support development in the occasion department.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure a safe working environment by complying with Health and Safety Guidelines and take action to deal with any issues.

What will you need to succeed as our Senior Designer?

  • Hold a Fashion BA Hons or equivalent qualification.
  • Established Designer with creative and technical ability to design casual end-use collections.
  • Passionate and enthusiastic to drive the best for the department.
  • Have a desire to continue to learn and develop self and skill set.
  • Ambitious to be part of a dynamic and creative team to define the brand and occasion category.
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work under own initiative.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to influence and persuade, and build strong working relationships.
  • Ability to deliver to tight timescales and work under pressure.
  • A good eye for casual product, both soft and structured, with a good understanding of embroidery and embellishments.
  • Good understanding of casual jersey products.
  • Fabric sourcing ability and good technical skills to develop beautiful products and first samples.
  • Confident in presenting collections/concepts and pitching ideas across the team.
  • Confident and versatile people skills to influence and persuade the wider team to vision.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of ‘brand handwriting’.
  • Has a passion for trend and fashion-forward casual products alongside a love of heritage Indian handwriting.
  • CAD Skills - Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator.
  • Quick and accurate ability to hand sketch designs, attention to detail.
