The Monitor Tech is an unlicensed individual who performs indirect care within the department. Responsibilities include monitoring cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitors, facilitating communication needs, transcribing physician orders in the absence of CPOE and EMR systems, verifying lab and radiology tests, preparing and maintaining ICU records, ordering supplies, and preparing patient charts. May assist nursing staff with indirect patient care duties if these do not interfere with primary responsibilities of dysrhythmia monitoring. ICU only: Under supervision of an RN, may provide direct care to adult and geriatric patients if certified as a CNA, demonstrates annual competency, and is relieved of Monitor Technician duties during direct patient care activities.
