Job summary

Almac Group in Craigavon is seeking a Molecular Biologist to support the development and delivery of biocatalytic solutions. You will clone, express and analyse recombinant proteins while contributing to strain improvement and enzyme engineering.

Applicants should hold a PhD in molecular biology or have substantial industrial experience, with hands-on skills in PCR, cloning, DNA work and protein analysis; strong communication skills and the ability to write scientific reports are essential.

Qualifications

• PhD or significant industrial experience in molecular biology.
• Experience cloning, expressing and mutagenesis of proteins.
• PCR, DNA cloning, DNA extraction and gel electrophoresis.
• Protein expression and analysis.
• Ability to develop research plans relating to molecular biology or biocatalysis.
• Clear scientific reports / presentations.
• Strong communication skills.
• MS Office proficiency.
• COSHH understanding.

Responsibilities

• Cloning, expressing and analysing recombinant proteins.
• Isolating, purifying and manipulating DNA for recombinant strain development.
• Engineering peptides and enzymes using molecular biology and chemical technologies.
• Supporting strain improvement programmes through screening and selection methods.
• Characterising isolated strains to assess improvements.
• Biochemical, biophysical and chemical analysis of proteins and peptides.
• Developing and implementing assays for genetic engineering of biocatalysts.
• Preparing scientific reports, presentations and SOPs.
