Position Summary:


The Histotechnician plays a vital role in supporting the Mohs surgeon by ensuring accurate and efficient preparation of tissue specimens. This includes assisting with specimen grossing, tissue processing, embedding, cutting, staining, and maintaining a clean and well-functioning laboratory environment.

Essential Functions:

To perform effectively in this role, the candidate must fulfill the following duties with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of histology, laboratory procedures, and quality control standards.
  • Embed, cut, stain, and mount tissue specimens efficiently and in adherence to established policies, procedures, and laboratory standards.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with superiors, peers, physicians, and patients.
  • Maintain strong organizational abilities and proficiency in relevant computer applications.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • 24 semester hours in medical laboratory technology courses, OR
  • 24 semester hours in science courses, with at least 6 hours in chemistry, 6 hours in biology, and 12 hours in a combination of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology.
  • Associate degree in chemical or biological sciences or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of 60 semester hours (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with Mohs procedures.
  • Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL, ASCP) or Histotechnician (HT, ASCP).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and laboratory equipment operation.
