Job Opportunity: Modern Matron (Oncology and Haematology)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Modern Matron (Oncology and Haematology) to lead our cancer nursing teams at The London Clinic. This role is based at the Duchess of Devonshire Wing in London, W1G 6JA, offering a competitive salary of £68,000 - £78,000 per annum (Band 8b/8c equivalent).

About The London Clinic: Established in 1932, it is one of the UK’s largest independent hospitals with 8 state-of-the-art facilities located in central London. We employ around 1350 staff and provide a range of services including complex medical, surgical, and cancer treatments. Our culture values going further, working as one, and personalising care.

The Duchess of Devonshire Wing: Our dedicated cancer centre with 8 floors, advanced radiotherapy & chemotherapy suites, and 47 patient bedrooms, treating a broad spectrum of cancers with the latest technology.

Job Profile

This influential role offers visible, inclusive leadership across the oncology & haematology services, managing approximately 100 staff. You will oversee Ward Managers & Clinical Nurse Specialists, fostering skills, autonomy, and high standards of person-centred care.

  • Reports to: Chief Nurse
  • Job Type: Full-time, permanent, 37.5 hours/week
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 0830-1630, with flexibility
  • Location: Duchess of Devonshire Wing, London, W1G 6JA
  • Salary: £68,000 - £78,000, dependent on experience

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage Ward/Unit Managers and Oncology CNS teams across various specialities
  • Provide professional leadership for nursing staff in Cancer Care
  • Implement cancer services strategies in collaboration with the AD for Cancer Care
  • Lead, motivate, and inspire teams to deliver outstanding patient care and safety
  • Manage resources effectively within budget
  • Promote continuous quality improvement in care, safety, and patient experience
  • Oversee recruitment, induction, staff wellbeing, and career pathways
  • Participate in a Silver on Call rota

Skills & Experience

  • RGN with NMC registration and cancer nursing leadership experience
  • Proven people management skills and leadership in cancer services
  • Experience in performance management and service improvement
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and networking skills
