Callen-Lenz is seeking a Modelling and Simulation Engineer to join the Air Vehicle Design team in Salisbury. About the role

Working within the Air Vehicle Design team you will be conducting multi-disciplinary modelling and simulation activities. This will include aircraft performance analyses, air vehicle design support through flight dynamics modelling, control algorithms design and model validation through analysis of experimental test data. We are looking for a simulation and modelling engineer to grow and develop our modelling capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Understand project requirements.
• Build model, simulate, and analyse aircraft performance and flight dynamics.
• Implement flight simulation and visualisation test environments.
• Present modelling analysis and simulation results, in meetings, conferences or through technical publications.
• Maintain models to high standards.
• Gather modelling data through bench/flight testing activities.
• Write technical documentations (technical specifications, model descriptions, test plans and test reports).
• Support team effort to establish library of reusable models / tools.
• Interface with software developers, design and testing activities to understand modelling needs and fidelity required.
• Ensure on-time delivery of technical solutions that meet business needs and manage business partner satisfaction relative to deliverables.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant domain (e.g. aerospace, automotive, physics etc).

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Excellent communicator who is able collaborate effectively.
• Ability to listen, reflect and positively influence a situation.
• Demonstrable problem-solving ability, working to tight timescales.
• Proficient in use of Matlab/Simulink or a comparable modelling tool.
• Demonstrable knowledge of UAVs flight dynamics physics and flight control systems.
• Excellent technical writing and presentation skills.
• Configuration Management experience in an engineering environment.

Desirable:

• Experience with model validation activities.
• Aerodynamics knowledge (Empirical techniques / CFD).
• Experience with SolidWorks or comparable CAD package.
• Experience with common flight simulation and visualisation packages.
• Knowledge and application of civil / military aerospace standards.
• Systems Engineering experience, preferably within an aerospace context.

Personal Attributes

• Must be a British Citizen or have an existing right to work in the UK.
• Ability to commit to occasional national and international travel.
• A full valid UK driving license.
• Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK.
