Job summary

Callen-Lenz in Salisbury, UK, seeks a UAS Training Manager to lead the design, development and delivery of training programs for pilots, operators and customer trainers on our platforms.

You will report to the Head of Flight Operations, build a high-performing team, ensure curricula stay current with CAA/MAA/EASA standards, and liaise with regulators. Degree in Aviation or Engineering and a civil/military aircrew instructor qualification are essential.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Head of Flight Operations/Accountable Manager (Flying), you will be responsible for leading and managing Callen Lenz’s flying training operations. This includes overseeing the design, development, and delivery of training programs for both Callen Lenz Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) test and evaluation and delivery Pilots and Operators and customer training on our platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement comprehensive UAS training programs for Pilots, CU operators and other personnel, ensuring approval conformance and compliance with industry standards and regulations (CAA, MAA).
• Ensure that training content is tailored to both civilian and military operational environments, addressing both technical skills and regulatory knowledge.
• Support the creation customer specific training modules to support the Customer Support team.
• Maintain and continually improve the Training Curriculum to ensure it is up to date with the latest technological advancements, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
• Ensure all training activities comply with the requirements set by the applicable civil or military regulators.
• Conduct regular assessments and audits of training activities to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
• Work with the Safety and Compliance Department to incorporate safety management and risk mitigation strategies into training programs.
• Lead and manage a team of instructors, trainers, and support staff, ensuring they are highly skilled and motivated to deliver high-quality training.
• Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and support professional development for the training team.
• Mentor and develop future training leaders within the team.
• Maintain records of all training programs and certifications issued, ensuring they are in compliance with CAA and MAA regulations.
• Liaise with internal departments to ensure training programs align with operational needs.
• Act as the primary point of contact for external organisations, agencies, and stakeholders regarding training certifications.
• Perform other related duties as required.

• Demonstrate in daily activities a commitment to health and safety in the workplace by always ensuring tasks are performed in the safest possible manner.
• Report all hazards and incidents that the individual is party to, or observes, in the correct manner.
• When required or directed, participate in any health and safety training.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Aviation, Engineering, or a related field.
• A civil or military aircrew training instructor qualification.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Extensive experience in UAS operations or a similar field, with knowledge of military and civilian aviation.
• Experience in training program development, including course design, delivery, and assessment.
• In-depth knowledge of CAA regulations (e.g., 2019/947), MAA safety standards, and EASA requirements for UAS operations.
• Proven leadership experience in managing a training team.

Desirable:

• Previous experience working in a military or defence training environment.
• Familiarity with flight planning software and UAS-specific operational tools.
• Experience with budgeting and resource management.
• Knowledge of remote sensing, surveillance, and UAS operations in defence applications.
• Additional UAS certifications such as:
• • CPL(A) or ATPL/CPL ground school
  • GVC/RPC1 or RPC2 qualification (Fixed Wing)
  • BMFA B Fixed wing

Personal Attributes

• Must be a British Citizen or have an existing right to work in the UK.
• Ability to commit to occasional national and international travel.
• A full valid UK driving license.
• Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK.
