Job summary

RAC is hiring a Mobile Vehicle Technician in our SMR Division. You’ll work on planned, pre-booked jobs with a fully equipped van, diagnostics tools, and support to ensure quality repairs without roadside callouts.

Based in the Taunton cluster (Somerset area), you’ll cover nearby towns with a structured schedule, no emergency breakdowns, and opportunities to grow skills in diagnostics and advanced repairs.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent).
• 2+ years’ experience required.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned servicing and diagnostics using mobile equipment.
• Perform in‑depth repairs that would normally be done in a workshop.
• Provide member advice and recommendations after inspection.
• Conduct vehicle safety checks in line with RAC standards.

• A competitive base salary of £40,170, with on-target earnings of up to£52,000

A Different Kind of RAC Role: Welcome toSMR The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that. Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growing part of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park. There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Taunton cluster, covering areas like Taunton, Wellington (Somerset), Minehead, Watchet, Williton. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

What you’ll need

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience


• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic


• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
