Job summary

The RAC is seeking a Mobile Vehicle Technician for its SMR division. You will handle planned maintenance and repairs on customers’ vehicles at their homes or workplaces, not roadside calls, working from a fully equipped RAC van on a pre-booked schedule across Taunton and nearby towns.

Expect a 40-hour week (8:30–17:00) with optional overtime and opportunities to boost earnings up to £52,000. A full UK driving licence and NVQ2 in light vehicle maintenance are required.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing and diagnostics on customer vehicles.
• Perform in-depth repairs on-site using mobile equipment.
• Advise members and provide recommendations based on inspections.

A Different Kind of RAC Role: Welcome toSMR The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that. Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growing part of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park. There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Taunton cluster, covering areas like Taunton, Wellington (Somerset), Minehead, Watchet, Williton. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.
