Job summary

RAC is seeking a Mobile Vehicle Technician for the SMR division. You will perform planned, pre-booked servicing and diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment on local customers’ vehicles, delivering quality repairs away from a workshop.

You’ll work a 40-hour week with scheduled appointments and some Saturdays. Based in the Reading cluster, you’ll cover Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell and nearby towns, using a digital schedule and clear processes to keep work moving smoothly.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent).
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

• Acompetitive base salary of £40,170, with on-target earnings of up to£52,000

You’ll be part of the Reading cluster, covering areas like Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell, Henley‑on‑Thames, Crowthorne, Sandhurst. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growingpart of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicingdirectly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries.Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

What to expect

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with the member expecting you.You’ll carry out:

• In‑depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection

And because SMR is structured, you’re not reacting to breakdowns - you’redelivering planned work that you can prepare for.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuelcard, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use your technical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely,quickly and confidently.

What you’ll need...

Either: NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience

or 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
