Job summary

The RAC in the Portsmouth area is seeking a Mobile Vehicle Technician for the SMR division. You will work on a planned schedule across Fareham and nearby towns with a fully equipped RAC van and support services. This role focuses on delivering quality maintenance and diagnostics away from garages.

Base salary is £40,170 with on-target earnings up to £52,000, plus overtime and bonuses. 40-hour weeks, core hours 8:30–17:00, and 1 in 4 Saturdays, with a driving-focused, independent field role.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years' experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Routine servicing and diagnostics using mobile equipment.
• In-depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop.
• Provide member advice and recommendations based on inspection.
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards.
• Work through scheduled appointments with pre-booked work.

You’ll be part of the Portsmouth cluster, covering areas like Portsmouth, Havant, Waterlooville, Fareham, Gosport, Chichester, Emsworth. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growingpart of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicingdirectly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park. There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries. What you’ll need...
