Job summary

RAC is recruiting a Mobile Vehicle Technician for the Oxford cluster. You’ll operate on pre-booked jobs across Oxford, Abingdon, Didcot, Wantage and nearby towns, with a focus on planned maintenance and diagnostics rather than reactive callouts.

You’ll work a 40-hour week with core hours 8:30 am–5:00 pm and occasional Saturdays, using a fully equipped RAC van and advanced diagnostics to deliver quality repairs on customer driveways and workplaces.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• or 5+ years’ experience as Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

About The Role

Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician inour SMR Division - a new era of mobile repair.

• Acompetitive base salary of £40,170, with on-target earnings of up to£52,000

• 40hours per week, with core hours from8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and 1 in 4Saturdays.

You’ll be part of the Oxford cluster, covering areas like Oxford, Abingdon, Didcot, Wantage, Witney, Bicester, Thame. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn't that.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growingpart of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicingdirectly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.

There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and noroadside recoveries.

Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.

What to expect

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with the member expecting you.You’ll carry out:

• Routine servicing
• Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
• In‑depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards

And because SMR is structured, you’re not reacting to breakdowns - you’redelivering planned work that you can prepare for.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuelcard, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use yourtechnical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely,quickly and confidently.

What you’ll need...

Either:

NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience

or

5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
