Job summary

RAC is hiring a Mobile Vehicle Technician for its SMR Division to perform planned mobile repairs and diagnostics on customer vehicles. You will follow a pre-booked schedule and provide clear, confident service to RAC members on site.

The role offers a base salary with overtime and bonus opportunities, 40-hour weeks, and a 1 in 4 Saturday pattern. A RAC van, tools, fuel card, and uniform are provided to start.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Routine servicing and diagnostics using mobile equipment.
• In-depth repairs typically done in a workshop.
• Provide member advice and recommendations after inspection.
• Vehicle safety checks in line with RAC standards.

Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician in our SMR Division - a new era of mobile repair.

A competitive base salary of £40,178, with on-target earnings of up to £52,000.

A guaranteed overtime option to increase your base salary, plus additional overtime and bonus opportunities.

40 hours per week, with core hours from8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and 1 in 4 Saturdays.

What to expect

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with the member expecting you. You’ll carry out:

• Routine servicing
• Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
• In‑depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards

And because SMR is structured, you’re not reacting to breakdowns - you’re delivering planned work that you can prepare for.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use your technical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again; safely, quickly and confidently.

What you’ll need

Either:

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
