Job summary

RAC is hiring a Mobile Vehicle Technician for the SMR Division in the UK. The role covers pre‑booked, on‑road appointments with a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform and tools provided.

You will perform servicing, diagnostics and in‑depth repairs, offering member advice and vehicle safety checks to RAC standards. Expect a 40‑hour week with core hours, in‑road scheduling and opportunities to grow skills in EV diagnostics and mobile service delivery.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Mobile Vehicle Technician – SMR Division

Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician in our SMR Division - a new era of mobile repair.

A competitive base salary of £45,378 (inclusive of London Weighting Allowance, if applicable).

On-target earnings of up to £57,000.

A guaranteed overtime option to increase your base salary to £44,385, plus additional overtime and bonus opportunities.

40 hours per week, with core hours from8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and 1 in 4 Saturdays.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Bromley cluster, covering areas like Bromley, Orpington, Beckenham, Chislehurst, Sidcup, Eltham, Woolwich, Greenwich, Lewisham, Peckham, Camberwell. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with the member expecting you. You’ll carry out:

• Routine servicing
• Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
• In‑depth repairs you’d normally complete in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards
