The RAC’s SMR division is hiring Mobile Vehicle Technicians to service members on pre-booked appointments across the Harlow cluster and surrounding areas. You’ll follow a clear schedule, performing routine servicing, diagnostics and repairs on-site at driveways and car parks with a strong emphasis on quality work.
Ideal candidates hold NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance or have 5+ years as a vehicle technician, plus a full UK driving licence.
A competitive base salary of £45,378
on-target earnings of up to £57,000
guaranteed overtime option to increase your base salary to £44,385, plus additional overtime and bonus opportunities
40 hours per week, with core hours from8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and 1 in 4 Saturdays.
The RAC is known for roadside rescue - but this isn’t that.
Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer, fast-growing part of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members - from their driveway to their workplace car park.
There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and no roadside recoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.
You’ll be part of the Harlow cluster, covering areas like Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, Waltham Abbey, Epping, Hoddesdon. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments - no reactive callouts, just organised, pre-booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.

From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use your technical skill and problem-solving ability to get people moving again; safely, quickly and confidently.
NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
or
5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
and
A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
