RAC is recruiting for a Mobile Vehicle Technician in the SMR Division in the Harlow area. You will work on a pre-booked schedule delivering planned repairs and services directly to members’ locations, with a fully equipped RAC van and support tools provided.
You’ll perform diagnostics, routine servicing, and in-depth repairs with the aim of keeping members moving safely and quickly. A stable schedule, with core hours 8:30am–5:00pm and one Saturday every four weeks, awaits the right candidate.
Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician in our SMR Division – a new era of mobile repair.
Competitive compensation includes:
The RAC is known for roadside rescue – this is a different story. SMR is a newer, fast‑growing part of the RAC that delivers planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members, from their driveway to their workplace car park.
There are no emergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and no roadside recoveries. Instead, you work through a scheduled list of jobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do quality work.
You’ll be part of the Harlow cluster, covering areas such as Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, Waltham Abbey, Epping and Hoddesdon. You’ll be out on the road in your local area, working on a clearly planned schedule of appointments – no reactive callouts, just organised, pre‑booked work where you can focus on doing the job properly.
Your day starts with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked and the member expects you. You’ll carry out:
Because SMR is structured, you’re delivering planned work that you can prepare for. From day one, you have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, full tool set and advanced diagnostics. Use your technical skill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again – safely, quickly and confidently.
You are great with tools, but also great with people. Our Mobile Mechanics are the face of the RAC, working on driveways, in car parks, speaking directly with members and providing reassurance, clarity and high‑quality service. You enjoy independence, problem solving and real variety – each job is different, from servicing and diagnostics to in‑depth repairs and reporting. You take pride in using your technical ability to genuinely help people and keep them moving.
We’re the RAC – more than 125 years of history, 12.5 million members and a mission to become the UK’s number one motoring services provider. Our culture reflects that ambition, backed by a 4.5‑star Glassdoor rating, and we are committed to career growth, recognition and support. We celebrate individuality and champion every voice.
