Job summary

Gateshead Council is seeking a Sheltered Scheme Officer to support older residents in housing schemes across the borough. You will conduct wellbeing conversations, risk assessments and welfare visits, helping residents access services while maintaining safe and welcoming environments.

Applicants should have experience in customer service, safeguarding, and working with vulnerable groups. A full driving licence and ability to liaise with partner agencies are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience of providing excellent customer service.
• Experience of supporting vulnerable individuals, ideally within housing, social care, health, community or customer-focused services.
• Experience of dealing with potentially difficult situations including drug and alcohol abuse and mental health issues.
• Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities and an understanding of how to respond appropriately to welfare concerns.
• The ability to communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, partner agencies and other stakeholders.

• Work closely with Care Call and other partner agencies to deliver high-quality services for older people.
• Manage a varied workload, balancing competing priorities while maintaining excellent customer service.
• Experience of providing excellent customer service and building positive relationships with a wide range of people.

Supporting older people to live independently The Older Persons Team forms part of Gateshead Council's Neighbourhood, Housing and Homelessness Service and provides vital support to residents living in sheltered housing schemes across the borough. Supporting around 1,400 residents, the team works closely with customers, families, health services, care providers and community organisations to promote independence, safety and wellbeing. As a Sheltered Scheme Officer, you will be a visible and trusted presence within our schemes, helping older people maintain their independence while ensuring they have access to the support and services they need. You'll play an important role in creating safe, welcoming communities where residents can live well and feel connected. What you'll get to do In this role, you will:
