Summary:
As a Mobile Plant Fitter, you will be responsible for the service, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment within a hire fleet. Based from home, you will regularly travel to various customer locations to provide onsite support, attending breakdowns, performing scheduled servicing, and capturing machine damage. You will maintain accurate and comprehensive equipment maintenance records and ensure all work complies with manufacturer guidelines and company processes.
Key responsibilities include planning and completing service and maintenance tasks on mechanical and non-mechanical plant and specialist equipment, raising workshop jobs with detailed records of hours and parts used, and managing parts requests through internal systems. You will maintain stock levels of tools, spares, and consumables on your vehicle, suggest stock requirements to management, and identify equipment for disposal.
Effective communication with customers and line management is essential to keep all parties informed of progress and potential equipment downtime. You will work closely with the Plant department operations team, supporting all areas of the business as required.
You will also be responsible for maintaining health, safety, environmental, and quality standards by following risk assessments, reporting incidents, using appropriate PPE, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills:
Previous experience as a Plant Fitter/Engineer
Strong mechanical and non-mechanical plant maintenance skills
Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Flexible and self-motivated
Computer literate with experience using workshop management systems
Full UK driving licence
Stock management and parts ordering experience
Customer liaison and onsite service delivery
Software/Tools:
Workshop management systems (for job raising and parts ordering)
Microsoft Office or similar for record keeping
Certifications & Standards:
NVQ or City and Guilds qualification in plant maintenance (desirable)
Forklift licence (desirable)
In-date CSCS card (desirable)
